David Macaulay, Motel of the Mysteries. For there was just the ocean of wheat going on and on forever...and not a line or seam or ripple to show where the old man sank from sight. "It was a sea burial," said the minister. "It was," said Hanks. "As I promised. One story, published in Guideposts for Kids, dealt with a girl accused of stealing an advance copy of a math quiz. David A Adler writes Young Cam Jansen and the Spotted Cat Mystery #12. With titles like “Inside the Wolf’s Den” and drinks like “Mothitos” (or fermented autumn moths), publishers didn’t want to risk legal repercussion by publishing Beastly Crime Chronicles. There was another boy who lived down the beach from them, I think, and they all became friends and he helped them out whenever he could. Probably from the early 20th century. He is bullied by the family cat, for one, and has a bird for a best friend that he must then consequently save from the cat.

I've spent the past 5 years looking online for the title. Dorothy Sayers stressed his positive aspects; she made it clear that she agreed with Pease about the need for more realistic books for children. It's a great deal of fun, a good and very clever mystery that pokes not-so-gentle fun at the so-called "great" detectives. I am looking for a series of books that (in my library) were hardback books, about 1/2 the height of a normal book, probably 2nd or 3rd grade reading level.

John, Mystery of the Gingerbread House. I can't believe you knew it right away - this has been haunting me for YEARS. For those of you who love dressing up as a favorite fictional character, whether a Disney princess or a Hogwarts student, we know you'll be all about Pan, which tells the backstory of the boy who never grows up. I took this book out multiple times during my elementary school years yet I don't recall the name or author. There are two other books of Archie stories: archy's life of mehitabel (Repr.

This is a beautifully illustrated picture book, suitable for children of all ages and would make an excellent introduction to the topic of Egypt for early years children. I think there was a lake involved, perhaps in the title? The story was so well written that I am now trying to find it again - I would be grateful for any clues about the book's name. The museum still sells the book though I don't know if it's available anywhere else. Phyllis Whitney, Mystery of the Haunted Pool, 1960.

A young (around 12) year old boy, possibly named Andrew, has a younger sister (about 8) and older teenaged brother (16 or so). The mystery is usually solved by an amateur detective who understands human nature and is gifted in observation and deduction. 'Cozy' is pretty much the opposite of 'hard-boiled.' COZIES: A SELECTIVE LIST (Helene Androski, University of Wisconsin): 'Each of the following authors wrote (or write) mysteries that contain most of the elements of a cozy: a minimum of violence, sex, and social relevance; the solution is arrived at by ratiocination or intuition rather than forensics and police procedure (or beating a confession out of someone); the murderer is indeed exposed and order restored at the end; the hero/ine is honorable and the other characters (often including the murderer) are well mannered and well-bred (except, of course, the servants); the setting is a closed community of some sort, such as a village, university, stately home.' Lists 60 authors, described their books generally.
