Progression

Having completed your BTEC Sport qualification, whats next…

  • More than 100,000 BTEC students make the university grade
  • Wolf Review urged to recognise vocational qualifications

Figures revealed for the first time in January 2011 by Pearson, the world’s leading learning company, show that more than 100,000 students were successful in applying to higher education after studying a BTEC.
The figures show that admissions to UK universities by BTEC students have risen 30% year on year.
Ninety-five per cent of Higher Education Institutions accept BTEC students, and more than 50% of 20- to 30-year-olds going on to higher education are BTEC students.

Some learners may wish to gain the qualification in order to enter a specialist area of employment or to progress to a higher education foundation degree, HND or other professional development programme.

Other learners may want to extend the specialist nature of the subjects they studied on the BTEC programme of study

BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Sport;

Education… Typically students would progress onto a BTEC Extended Diploma (2 years) or a BTEC Subsidiary Diploma (1 year) in Sport. Students wishing to progress onto the higher level courses will need to demonstrate significant academic progress throughout the Level 2 Diploma. An overall Merit grade would need to be achieved to move onto the BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport.

Work… Typically students who do not stay in education go on to work in the sporting industry however this is not always the case.

BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport;

Education… Typically students who complete this course would go on to university. With University becoming more competitive, students should be looking to achieve Merit overall on the Extended Diploma. Universities such as Brunel University, west London, come highly recommended. Having completed the Extended Diploma some students look at the Fitness pathway and complete industry recognised qualifications such as Fitness Instruction and Personal Training.

Work… Typically students who do not stay in education go on to work in the sporting industry however this is not always the case.
